The original Sudbury school was started in 1968 in Framingham Massachusetts. Since then the basic model has been expanded in hundreds of offshoots.
The Basis for the Sudbury model is that human beings are naturally curious and children will learn better if they get to decide the what they want to learn and when. It is a democratic model with students and staff getting an equal vote in the course of the day.
